Lancaster to Chester

Friday 27 July 2012 80 Miles

Cool to sunny day, big tail wind.  Busy roads, lots of traffic noise.

Cracking on to eat some miles after the big day yesterday.

Mark’s last day as alpha male /fridge. Thanks for helping and for the wise cracks!

We followed the A6 to Garstang and then Preston for the telling of Jan’s first joke of the day “Country and Western”.  Stopping at the Withy Trees Café we met Dave, Dave, Dave and Hayley who’s surname is Comet (really).  Thanks for the donated Millionaire’s shortbread, just what us tired cyclists needed!

From Preston we made for the A49 and hit Big W land:  Wigan, Warrington and Widness.  En route to Wigan, Charlie had a puncture near Welch Whittle: Painful!!!

We stopped at a local bike shop for extra tubes and some new rear lights.  Making our way past a lovely power station as well:

Then we crossed the lime green bridge over the Mersey at Runcorn (not exactly “Ferry Across the Mersey” but that’s what we sang.  “Calm down, calm down!”.  A short climb up the hill to the Prospect pub for a welcome drink (beer for Mark!).

Finally, then to Chester.  We waved bye-bye to Mark and Mandy.  Hope you can join us later Mandy!  Sorry we didn’t hear your calls due to the wind and traffic noise.  Beautiful town, we had dinner at Chez Jules J xo and walked around town before settling in to watch the Olympics opening ceremony on the telly, but didn’t see Dave’s friend Wendy L in the Aussie team.  If it’s boring there, Wendy, there’s a team here that needs your assistance.

No tears today.  But we are very weary.
